What can you expect to learn in I&E Troubleshooting Motors and Motor Circuits?
Recent and current data supports the fact that there are many E&I failures that are not the result of the system and/or the device but rather were created using current assembly and installation methodologies / practices. Additionally, according to the United States Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for electricians is expected to grow by a whopping 20 percent between 2012 and 2022.This significantly exceeds the average growth for all occupations. Emerging technology related to all areas of power generation, distribution and deployment of electrical motors will challenge electricians in new and exciting ways. Electricians and technicians will be increasingly tasked to install,maintain and repair critical equipment. An ever widening knowledge gap is forming in the skill levels of the current workforce and in the upcoming replacements for those experienced workers that will impact production and ongoing operations.
Attendees spend a signi cant portion of class time in; instructor lead demonstrations, analysis of gathered running data and hands-on performance work, while utilizing a variety of static and dynamic measurement instruments. Students will nd the seminar informative, and loaded with immediate eld applicable practical tips. The seminar is aimed towards participants with an electrical and instruction craft background. Engineers and First Line Supervision and those with responsibilities for reliability improvement will nd the seminar valuable and are encouraged to attend to demonstrate advocacy and increase their understanding for renewed fluid essentials.
Subjects (included but not limited to):
This class will study the operation and construction of various types of motor and transformer along with their common failure modes. Students learn the foundational measurements needed to determine the electrical integrity of a circuit. Participants will discuss and review various analysis methodologies and applications to more effectively use electrical condition monitoring measurements to assess motor and transformer health in preventive maintenance inspections and routines. the class will also focus on motor controllers,starters,and auxiliary and control components and systems including control devices: sensors and switches, pressure and temperate measurement devices, analytical inputs, timers and counters. This course will also include an introduction to programmable logic controllers (PLC). A comprehensive discussion on PLC components around operation and failure modes is combined with this topic and includes hands-on activities including programming ladder logic using our PLC trainers and computers. Session attendees return to the facility ready to more effectively communicate with condition monitoring personnel and assist with: asset strategy development, machinery performance audits and a renewed determination to remove failure sources.
All related mechanical craft technicians, first and second line supervision, planners, schedulers, maintenance work teams, operations/management/material coordinators, selected senior operators, and small project and large project managers.
Craft Personnel are expected to have a set of basic skills or completed I&E Core Proficiencies.
5 days of formal training for 15 participants. Recommended class make-up is 10 crafts personnel and 5 from the other mentioned roles.
