What can you expect to learn in Foundational Elements?
Preface:
Where do the many activities we perform to keep our equipment reliable originate? Who decides which PM’s to do, when to do them and by whom? Are the many PM activities we perform correct, effective and efficient?
Asset Strategy Development (ASD) is a systematic,
scientific method for developing equipment strategies.
It is designed to take the emotion out of determining
what must be done in order to preserve the function
of a particular asset or system.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion, students will gain a firm
understanding, with classroom experience, of how to:
• Utilize the ASD process to develop effective and
efficient equipment strategies
• Optimize existing PM’s and eliminate ineffective and redundant work
• Review their roles in the asset maintenance planned work process and more effectively manage small projects
• Use reliability metrics to determine the effectiveness of current reliability efforts
The course begins with a review of effective communication techniques, including the importance of 3V communication. Students then learn the Asset Strategy Development (ASD) process, with practical, real-world examples. Using their own data, students build strategies for equipment in their own plants. Students are prepared to test, validate and potentially eliminate PM inspection task redundancy and reduce inventory using reverse ASD methods. Finally, students will examine effective and efficient work processes using traditional planning methods as well as Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
